What do you do with your stitchings?

Postby Lyudmila » Wed Apr 05, 2017 9:16 pm

We all actually stitch for the sake of the very process of stitching. But who does not like it when the needle is pulled out for the last time, you put the newly finished work on the sofa/table/back of the chair, look at it and see what a great job you have done.

Then you wash and iron it... What happens next? Where do your works go- to relatives, to friends, to colleagues, to neighbours, up the wall in the living room?

When I was stitching tablecloths, they went as presents- to family, friends, as "thank you"s, to penpals abroad as Christmas presents. They were serious presents.

The same with pictures. Last year I stitched 10 Easter towels for all my friends. Different designs, but some were stitched 5 times as people wanted exactly those.

To cut a long story short, in my case stitching is used as universal presents saving me a lot of headache.

What is the usual fate of your stitchings?

Any stitching I do go to friends & family, except for the "Butterfly Forest" picture I finished in February that's on my wall in the living room. :-$

I stitch for Family & Friends. I've done larger pictures for my children and myself..framed them or had them professionally done. When my eye was damaged ..I've been limited with my vision so only stitch smallish designs. and as I have loved the exchanges we had on EMS I've learn't about many articles that I had not heard about or even perhaps would not have stitched. I found it fun to try all kinds of articles and that keeps me busy. @};-

Most of my stitching is stitched for me and me alone these days.
I have in the past stitched birth samplers for DGC and made quilts for them .Having only boys does not call for gifts except for a son's special pet which made him cry....not good with the whole family..soooooooooooooooo now my projects go on display on my walls or just into my cupboard.I do try to make small designs in to useful items eg needlecase, thread holder, pincushion or the like .But many are not suitable so I gladly lay them in my roll up storage thingo and at times take a peek to see what I can take and finish.

I stitch for relaxation and the personal challenge therefore couldn't stitch any design I didn't like.

Good question.

I stitch for relaxation and the personal challenge. I do stitch for family, friends, and a few charities. I love the exchanges and so does my family. We have enjoyed a few exchange students so this keeps all of learning new places and ideas.

I stitch wedding and birth samplers for my extended family and some gifts and some for myself but most of my smalls are given away at Thanksgiving. My husband and I host Thanksgiving dinner every year for any of the family that can come (many live in other states) so it's like a small family reunion every year and I leave out small framed stitches and pillows (Ornaments) for any who want to take one home.

Most of mine are on my walls or waiting to be framed for my walls. I even made a large shadowbox that hangs above my headboard to keep all the smalls. Other than exchanges I give very few pieces away as most people simply do not appreciate the work.

I have stitched for family over the years. I've also done other crafts for family, too. Most of what I did for my MIL were given back to me just before and after she died last year. My SIL, to my surprise, asked if she could have one afghan I made. Since the decree by her mother was for the contents of the house to be split among the 3 children and their spouses, she didn't have to ask! I was touched and honored and immediately said yes.

However, most of the family neither understood, nor appreciated, the work involved in hand crafted gifts so I quit making them for family. Now it's done for myself and my husband. Much is just kept in boxes because I do something because I like the design and craft, not for what is to be done with it.

I also have a fair amount on the walls - including the one framed stitched project that my SIL claimed for herself the day I gave it to my MIL. She forgot she had asked for it and had no place for it so she let me have it back.

Hubby found one small framed stitched picture I had given his mother that was an EMS design! I'm really glad to have that one back!
There's no such thing as a stupid question!

I do stitch for family, friends, and a few charities. Sometimes I even do something for me :D . The person that has the most stitched for them is my DH. I have some projects that I have stitched for my home. This makes me happy to see them plus keeps me going to complete more projects.

Well, i do stitching, because i like the result! Doing this, keep me calm, and keep me busy!
I do stitching, a little bit for the family, they selected, what they wanted, and i do it. I discover the ''exchange'' since EMS and i continue with Bea. With the ''exchange'', i learn a lot (doing biscornu, humbug, pyramid) and i like this different way of stitching. Most of my project finished on my walls or wait to be frame....! I do some cards for Christmas, only for people who like cross stitching. And about you?... ;;}(
