Wednesday Question

Postby Lyudmila » Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:11 am

Have just come across a nice question: what do you do with kits/charts you know for sure you will never ever stitch them? Do you keep them for future generations to use? Do you give them away to crafty acquaintances or charity? Do you sell them? Do you bin (charts from mags, for one) them?

So the question is :)] What do you do with the kits/charts you dont need? :)]

I periodically clean my books of files with charts and some go to my stitchy acquaintances, some-straight into the bin. With most I just cant part as they are either too great or are part of some good memory.

Any charts/kits I don't want or use I either give to the charity store or just keep them, don't know anyone to pass them onto.

Kits I will not use I try to find them a home. Patterns I can't seem to part with many of them. I still even buy older patterns saying I need to stitch that or I may need that pattern for someone. WH_:{

In the past, I have donated them, both charts and kits, to a second hand shop that is run by the SPCA. All proceeds go to the SPCA. Right now I have about 50 or so kits that I would like to sell, if at all possible.

Good question.
I'm in the midst of what I call purging some of my stash.
My last old magazines are down to only a couple.I take them to my groups and leave them for anyone to take.Inevitably someone finds something in them they like.My few kits an patterns I have sold on a stash unload site we have here in Oz.I nervously tired it for the first time and was amazed with the interest .It's only local postage which is great.Maybe there's more of these Face Book groups in other places.I need to get more listed .

What I've done with old kits that I don't intend to do - cannibalize them! I take the floss and determine (if possible) what brand it is and put it with others of that brand. I put the fabric with other fabric and the pattern in a folder with other kit patterns. The needle goes in a tube with like-sized needled. After that, I just pick/choose when I want to start a new project.
There's no such thing as a stupid question!

I learned my lesson the hard way, I don't EVER get rid of a pattern anymore. I know that if I do I will need it later. A few years ago I bought a box of leaflets at a yard sale, there were a dozen or so antique style ones and I almost got rid of them. One of my library friends has been looking for one of the ones that I have.
I do the same as Diane with kits I don't want.

I donate them to a local domestic abuse shelter for women who left with nothing to have. I have even volunteered some time teaching cross stitch to the women that don't know how. ;}}
