For a long time I HATED french knots. I had a lady that was able to teach me how to do them correctly/ better then what I was doing by far. I don't mind them now, but depending on the pattern I will use beads instead of french knots.

The perfectness of the knot (to me) depends on how fast and correctly works your left thumb, and especially its nail. If you fix the thread on the needle in time and properly, a nice knot is guaranteed.(I mean if you are righthanded; if you are left-handed, then the right thumb, of course).

Finally i am OK with the french knot. I do not know the colonial knot. And, yes sometime i prefer the beads..... WH_:{

I don't do French knots, I use Colonial knots instead. Much easier to do and they end up more consistent in size. I quite often will use beads instead of either knot, though.

I'm just fine with French Knots, I have done a few Candlewick pillows but learned the knots years before..
