How do you feel about 'french knots'?????

How do you feel about 'French knots'??????

You either love them or hate them.

I'm in the middle. I will do French knots, but sometimes I will go thru my bead stash
and look for beads to use instead of doing French knots.
I have found that beads will add a sparkle/punch to the pattern.

Me and French knots don't get along, only do them if I have to.

Once I learned to NOT go down the exact same hole I came up in (shift by a thread), I don't mind them. I used to hate them. My sister, many years ago, got me a kit for Candlewicking and that is ALL french knots! After doing that kit, they never bothered me again!

If you haven't heard of Candlewicking, it's based on an old pioneer craft. The women would separate the excess candlewicks (after they made all the candles they needed), and use the threads to make textural designs on pillows, and such. It was usually white on white so it was for texture as the stitches were not as easily visible.
There's no such thing as a stupid question!

French knots & I do not get along. I do them but don't enjoy them as I can never get both eyes to look the same on a face. I usually use beads but I have yet to try a colonial knot which everyone says is easier.. Gi{{

Unlike backstich, French knots are interesting and quite OK as long as they are fewer than a thousand. Gi{{

Candlewicking is actually the colonial knot rather than french knot. It's a bit bigger. It's not easier but it does yield more even knots. You have to sort of "figure 8" the thread on the needle before you put it back through the fabric. With that kit from my sister, I got pretty good at doing it!

I like French knots when a smaller petite knot is required but I still would rather colonial knots.I'm told that colonial knots will never unravel where French knots will eventually..????????? Not sure this is true as I have tried to frog a French knot and much language came forth WH_:{

Bea, we could open cooperation with me doing French Knots and you- backstitching. Together we would stitch tons of designs, because sometimes the amount of backstitch alone turns me off- like all those cats and hedgehogs by Margaret Sharon. I tried the cat in the hammok and after MY backstitch binned it.

Certainly not my favourite!
I will do them if there is only a scattered few - otherwise I find beads from my stash.
I prefer colonial knots - I find them easier to get a " rounded " look
