Did you know this?

Postby Lyudmila » Thu Oct 12, 2017 4:49 pm

My English friend, a civil engineer, jokes that all the inventions were made because of their authors' laziness.

I am not going to patent an "invention", but seem to have discovered for myself a good method of backstitching for very lazy stitchers like me.

I had to backstitch all those roofs. How do you do that? Right, one tiny piece at a time, a tiny line over a square. And you can hardly see that line. And it looks like anything but snow's edge. I start at the beginning of the line and the thread goes straight to the other end of the line over the work if you see what I mean. Then I ajust the shape of the edge of that snow (lay the thread) the way it is supposed to be and secretly fix it with micro stitches in crucial places. Believe me you dont see where and how. This does take time, but to me it is easier and looks better. Or at least I believe it does.

Did you know this method? :)]

Are you talking about couching?? By your description, that's what it sounds like you are doing.

If it is couching you are doing, I don't particularly like doing it. I don't mind doing back stitching, so having to do a lot doesn't bother me.

Not counching, I mean long stitches where there is a need to show, for example, the edge of the roof. A million of tiny stitches does not look like snow to me, especially the upper part of a heap of snow. But then tastes differ.

I haven't heard of this technique but it does sound interesting!. I'm not sure how it would save time, but I can see where it would help the backstitching show up more. Especially in areas where the backstitch color is close to the color being stitched over. Thanks for sharing

I never look forward to the backstitching, but it's not so bad once I get started on it.
