How Often Does ...

Postby Dragonlair » Thu Oct 05, 2017 4:32 pm

A small, very minor, incident make or break your day?

We've all experienced it. The day is going along normal and then something happens, something very minor, and suddenly, you feel it's either a very good day or a very bad day!

Although I normally read ebooks now, I still have a lot of print books. I pulled one out (the next in a series) last weekend and went looking for my bookmark. Yes, I have lots of them but I have one SPECIAL one. It's gold-plated with an etching of an eagle and a bible verse on it. I got it at a garage sale for 25 cents years ago and it's my favorite.

I could NOT find it! Hubby and I looked high and low for it. He thought it might have fallen into a trash can and gotten thrown out by accident. I didn't think so. It's got a very small jingle bell and a little "jewel" dangling from a split ring in a slot on the top. We would have heard it fall!

I was really upset! I did order a new bookmark (actually, the cheapest was a set of 20 for $2.94 from Amazon.com) but the order has a delivery window of Oct 26 - Nov 15! I did feel a bit better but my whole day was thrown off because I wanted my special bookmark!

Yes, it was very trivial and very minor but I was still upset.

Then, yesterday - I was reaching for a pencil in a small plastic cylinder on a lazy-susan on the kitchen table and ---- WHOA! I yelled, "Look what I found!" My bookmark was in the cylinder with the pencils and pens! I had looked there but had missed it.

Yesterday was a GOOD day! I felt in a very good mood all day! Just as trivial to find the little bookmark as to lose it but just as great a response -- in the opposite direction.

I know I can't be the only one who has mood swings based on trivial things like this! I'm still feeling good. I have my bookmark and I've got 20 new ones that I can add my own dangles and such so they are pretty and unique, too!
There's no such thing as a stupid question!

Been there ...done that as well.
Yesterday was looking for a Halloween pumpkin outfit I had made for one of my dolls so I could set up my Halloween display. Looked in my contained with doll clothes and not there...Did find it eventually in a doll accessory container...but took awhile to get to that contained as while I was looking I also reorganized the doll articles ...so hopefully I'll remember that I changed stuff around the next time I'm looking for something.. This seems to happen to me quite a bit (losing stuff). I will say to myself "I could have sworn I put it here". I will look in all the obvious places it could be, then start on the not so obvious. This could go on for a few days. BUMMER!! Then all of a sudden it will show up some place I *thought* I looked, but apparently couldn't have. Or like you Diane, looked but missed seeing it the first ..... second ..... third!! .... time. ;}}

My grandson finally admitted that there is a gremlin in our house. About a month ago he called me in to help him find the remote control that fell off the couch. I moved furniture, books, guitar, finally found it over 6 feet away in a place you could not even throw it to from the couch. It would have had to hit the floor in front of the couch (where he heard it drop), bounce up, turn sideways to fit between the side table and trash bin, bounce again and jump over a short cabinet. It was behind the cabinet in a 3inch space from the wall! This was not a tiny remote either but a heavy 8" DTV remote.
After I found it it was a great day for me because I could say SEE! Now he can understand how I feel when I'm sitting, using my good scissors and all of a sudden they disappear without me moving and show up a week later in another room.

I remember in such cases my granny would say, "You have played enough, give it back to me"(mainly it was about scisors or some thread), and in a minute she would really find the thing.

The best recipe in such cases is to stop looking for the thing. When you relax, you will find it at once.

But I do agree sometimes things "disappear" and you find them in unexpected places.
